End of Summer Synopsis

Random Thoughts About This Summer

1) The Bills lost AGAIN. I'm still a fan. I can't give up on my hometown team. Before I leave this Earth, I'd like to see them win a Superbowl...

2) For a few weeks, I was subjected to bullying by a much younger co-worker, who was apparently battling his own inner demons. We're good friends, so I was shocked by his behavior. Finally I reported the abuse to my boss, who also happens to be his mother. She gave it to him good and finally he apologized. He felt so bad that he came over to my place with pizza and wings. I accepted the apology and gave him a lecture about rage. We're like siblings, so I couldn't just give up on him...

3) My roommate is nothing like Angel Jr. She's reserved, and somewhat cold. Sometimes I feel like it's just a hotel for her. I think if you have a roommate, you must be able to acknowledge the other's presence. I don't even hear a good-bye (when I'm sitting in the living room) as she's leaving the house. I don't think I want her to sign the lease in Oct.

4) I'm going to my first rock concert (at the local fair) in a couple of weeks. My friend and I are going to rock out to a band called Seether. I've never heard of them:) I just want an excuse to have a Personal Holiday...and to feast on fair food.

5) For the past three weeks, I've been eating waffles for breakfast. With just butter. It's a personal reward. For many months, I was forced to eat Shredded Wheat because, um, well, I had two small external hemorrhoids. It's not TMI! And I'm not ashamed to tell you. I'm just raising the awareness for a high fiber diet. Don't neglect your colon! And drink plenty of water. I paid the price for my neglect in a bad way.

6) You guys must think I'm a real whack job.

7) I cooked with the herbs and tomatoes from my garden. It was a great feeling!

8) The health care debate is driving me crazy. I saw a lunatic on Anderson Cooper last night. He didn't make any sense to me. I wish we could just let all of these crazies build their own community and live their version of utopia. Leave the rest of us alone.

9) Kanye West is a douchebag. I pity the woman who falls for his "charms." In my opinion, he has none.

10) I hope you all have a wonderful week of silly fun and laughter:) We could certainly use it with all the chaos around us.

Wedding With A Funny Lady

Last weekend I took an Alzheimer's resident to her granddaughter's wedding. About a year ago, her family had asked me if I could bring her, since they were going to be busy with the big day. She's touched my heart in many ways, so I was happy to say yes. I was allowed to bring a guest--I picked my former co-worker and current landlady (Angel Jr was busy!). The trip went well! I was afraid that she'd be hesitant to get in the car. Normally the daughters take her to appointments, holiday gatherings, etc. Alas, it was a success. Her family was delighted to see her and she made everyone laugh with her witty comments. At the reception, as soon as we sat down, she guzzled the glass of champagne. I guess she thought it was water?:) And then there was that jalapeno popper which she readily accepted from the waiter...She immediately spit it out and said "Here. You eat it"

We made sure that she was back by 9pm. At the end of the day, a person suffering from dementia might not remember your name, but he/she will remember the kindness of others. That's the secret to dealing with this disease. She tells her daughters "She's good to me" as I'm walking in the halls. I sort of cringe because I feel that's how everyone should be with her (and others like her)...
