I've been walking a lot since there's isn't an extra vehicle at the "palace." I don't want to fight over the available cars, so I rely on my feet to do the work. It's a good excuse to burn off the extra pounds. At this stage in life, I just want to be active. I wasn't alarmed by the weight gain because I knew I was indulging in sweets. I told the doctor that it might have been a side effect from the headache medication. It's always a good excuse! Seriously, the medication has affected my appetite (I eat well!) and uh, chest area. I'd rather deal with these side effects than go back to the annoying headaches/migraines?!
Currently I'm reading "A Woman's Place" by Lynn Austin. It's a novel about the lives of four women in the WWII era. They befriend each other while working in a shipyard. Each character is unique in her own way, and I find myself relating to their personalities and great expectations. Most of them are shunned by others for choosing the work, yet they continued to sacrifice for the war effort. I, too, faced a lot of criticism when I worked in a factory. It's not a glamorous job, but that's a way of life for many people. In fact, I'd say most of this region is known for the manufacturing industry. Back to the book...the author did an excellent job of portraying life in early 1940s, with its prejudices and expectations of women and minorities. It's hard to imagine that such an era even existed. Of course these attitudes are still prevalent in many parts of the world. So, while it may be a book about American life in the 1940s, I can relate to the issues as a 21st century woman. I have defied many traditions, and "according" to Indian culture, I should be an outcast. Speaking of women's issues, I'd like everyone to read this article

I will have to tell my wife about this book. I think she might find it interesting. I did read that article, and I can totally relate. We spent about $5000 to save our beloved fat basset. He needed spinal surgery or he was going to lose the use of his rear legs so we did it and haven't looked back. We also only have him and no kids so that made the decision a little easier.
You are an amazing person! And you shouldn't let yourself be defined at all. If I were to define you, there would be way too much to say, not enough words to describe you. Amazing, beautiful, intelligent, humorous, caring, compassionate, talkative, a great listener, a true friend, those are not even the tip of the iceberg.
Okay I'll admit it... I just picked up the new harry potter book. I read the first chapter last night.
DayByDay
good job with the walking! I wish I lived in a bigger city so I could walk to places easier and it wouldn't take forever!
Mr. Shife--I think she'll enjoy it. I was surprised to find historical fiction so entertaining. By the way, there was an error with the Newsweek link. I was impressed with the My Turn essay on a woman's biological clock. Instead, the link went to story on vet bills. Anyway, both articles are good reads! I'd also spend a load on my cats. They're too precious. And, yeah, they're "my babies" for now:-)
Angel--Why you are too kind with your words! I can't get enough of your sweet talk. People don't get the wrong idea. We have a weird connection that most people would find strange. We have to force ourselves to stay away from the phone, otherwise it'd mean no sleep and hyperactive laughs.
Day--Bravo! I've read two of the books. I've been a slacker with the series, so don't tell me what happens!
Nutz--Thanks. I walked 6 miles over the weekend. The weather was perfect. Today it's pouring, so I'll hibernate:) You know I used to laugh at mall walking, but that's a good exercise too. American cities aren't like Europe where walking is easy.
You know...you have to take a written AND a driving test before you can get your driver's license.
But there are no such exams for creating a life. No test you can take so that society can be assured that you will be an effective parent.
Lots of people have kids for all the wrong reasons.
(I've met Angel Jr. in person actually, when I was in his neck of the woods. He is truly a great person!)
Walking is good, I usually use tennis as my exercise, although I am back to working out again which is a good thing
Sounds like an interesting book
Phoenix--I agree. Nothing wrong with having kids, but no need to rush into it for the wrong reasons. Or nag others who are childless for whatever reasons. And, yes, Angel Jr is one of a kind!
Phats--You'll have to give me tennis lessons. I confess that I had 3 years of practice. My brother is a pro, while I'm the slacker:-)
Sounds like an interesting book. Have you read French Lieutenant's Woman?
I didn't really do a lot of walking until I moved to the UK and now if I can walk to a place (or cycle) I would.
Sorry I haven't blogging and commenting much but you know how it goes. I am going to try a bit more before I go back to work in a couple of weeks.
