Channeling The Dark Side

For the past two years I've been living without a television, which used to be one of my best friends. To my surprise, I had found that I could live without it. Don't get me wrong, I still catch episodes of my favorite 80's shows, Family Guy, or Daily Show if I get an opportunity. And if I do get an urge to watch anything, I usually find something on youtube (most recently it has been a fascination with 48 hour Mystery episodes!). Without the TV, I also read more books and took up new hobbies like gardening and facebooking...

I'm not going to criticize anyone who watches TV. It's entertainment, a learning tool and also a sleep inducer. But I'm also mystified by the crap that I find on it. When I'm having a slow night at work, I'll usually spend time with one of my elderly residents who happens to be a night owl. He always throws me the remote and says "It's all yours." While channel surfing, I came across "Megan Wants A Millionaire" and "Dating In The Dark." Obviously Megan is just using this show to boost her acting career. Good luck sister! I think I felt more nauseous by the "Dating In The Dark" episode. Two women rejected two great guys. One thought the dude was being too forward. Huh? What's wrong with that? It's not like he groped her or anything! And she seemed to like it. The second woman thought her guy wasn't tall enough, but that everything else about him was fine. They didn't even give the guys a chance. Well good luck to those sisters too! I got so mad that I turned it off.

Once again I had to remind myself that the TV isn't always reflection of me..."It's not always about you Egg. There's lots of nutjobs like you out there." Okay at one time in my life, I also judged guys based on their height or touchy feely ways. I realized later that one will indeed be left in the dark if certain imperfections, whether financial or physical, aren't overlooked...Egg is quite happy with Mr. Egg right now. He thinks that she's crazy because she doesn't find his belly to be an issue...if it was a matter of morbid obesity, it'd be another story! And besides, he gives the best hugs:-)

There is some nutty programing out there. And I like a sucker get sucked into some of that nuttiness.

I watch less and less TV every year, it seems. I'll catch some shows here and there. I thought the "Dating in the Dark" show was actually very interesting.

It showed how shallow we can be.

Just can't take the TV too seriously, as it's just junk food for the brain.

Glad to see you're back - you took a longer hiatus than I did!

My TV has been down since Saturday night and it will not be fixed until Thursday. I am having a tough time even though there is a lot of garbage on the tube.
