I've been listening to good old fashioned 70's lately. I discovered a CD in my brother's collection. He said it was his buddy's. Since the buddy is living far away in a Mediterranean country, I figured that he wouldn't mind if I perused his stuff. After all, they used to borrow clothes if either one happened to crash at the other's place. I thought that it was kind of funny. I assumed that only women did this sort of stuff. They're best buds, who also have had their share of adventures with ladies. Ahem! I shouldn't judge since I've had my own dating nightmares. Back to the CD discovery...it's the Best of the Steve Miller Band. It has certainly brought much inspiration to my spirits....As you all know, I'm trying to break free from the mold and all. I like some of today's songs, but nothing compares to the 60's-80's...this stuff is pure magic. So, I'm sharing the lyrics to "Jet Airliner"...Captures my mood very well. In two weeks, I'll be somewhere out on my own...Listen to the song (by the way, how can I post songs? know of any good links?). It might kick you in one way or the other.
Leavin home, out on the road
Ive been down before
Ridin along in this big ol jet plane
Ive been thinkin about my home
But my love light seems so far away
And I feel like its all been done
Somebodys tryin to make me stay
You know Ive got to be movin on
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Dont carry me too far away
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its here that Ive got to stay
Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people Ive trusted
Ive got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Ridin high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven
Big ol jet airliner
Dont carry me too far away
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its here that Ive got to stay
Touchin down in new england town
Feel the heat comin down
Ive got to keep on keepin on
You know the big wheel keeps on spinnin around
And Im goin with some hesitation
You know that I can surely see
That I dont want to get caught up in any of that
Funky shit goin down in the city
Big ol jet airliner
Dont carry me too far away
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its here that Ive got to stay
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Dont carry me too far away
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its here that Ive got to stay
Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah
Big ol jet airliner
Dont carry me too far away
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its here that Ive got to stay
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Carry me to my home
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its there that I belong

I like Steve Miller Band. One of my buddies actually met the lead singer in a bar a couple years back. And Jet Airliner is one of my favorites. We are definitely on some sort of similar wave length.
oh fun! I love old music like that! perfect summertime soundtrack!
I am extremely unimpressed with the latest wave of music and newest crop of music 'stars'.
All the pop princesses, boy bands, and worst of all... shows like American Idol, which is nothing more than a test marketing excercise, bulding an audience and fanbase before any actual music is recorded--the ultimate in big companies's fears of taking risks. All this constructing of stars leaves the music empty. The music is a means to stardom, not a end in itself.
So I rarely listen to anything past the 90s, and instead reach out to other decades, and other genres, to see what they have to offer.
Steve miller Band is a good find. If you are looking for other suggestions, let me know.
I'm also wondering where I can post a link to a song. I used to be able to do that on catpost...
Will you let me know if you find out?
love,
missy x
Finally discoverying SMB? Better late than never, I suppose. :D Don't lie, you're favorite song is really Jungle Love!
good song, never really a fan of the 70's music though! :)
Angel--Yeah we have always been on a weird wavelength. I just hope that I didn't kill your sleep routine after that long phone call!
Ruby--Get the old soundtracks rolling!
Blackcrag--I hear you loud and clear! I just can't get into some of today's stuff. Something just pulls be back to the old stuff. You should do another entry about your favorite blues bands!
Missy--Sure thing! Someone please help us:-)
Aaron--Hehehe. Well, I knew some of their songs. After I listened to the entire CD, I realized what I was missing out on...Alright it wasn't my fault that I got sucked into New Kids on the Block as a pre-teen. Damn marketing!
Phats--I like most kinds of music. 70's disco is fun! What's your style? I think you've posted some songs on your blog. Show us how to do that. Thanks!
